WHAT YEAR DID YOU ATTEND FEMPOWER AFRICA AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THE CONFERENCE?
Fempower was the conference where I got my AHA moment.
Prior to attending Fempower in 2017(the first edition), I had already started my business but didn’t have a community of fellow female entrepreneurs to encourage me or learn from. I was playing small. Veryyyyy very small .
I also didn’t have any dreams for my business. It was more like a hobby then as I couldn’t see so much in it.
Fempower helped me:
1. Believe in the possibility of my business because I saw a lot of young people in my age bracket (Prechycakes in particular) upscaling their business, thinking big and even sharing her story with us in the panel session. Fempower gave me a dream.
2. Meet a lot of like minded people who have grown to be close friends, customers and sisters.
3. Meet a lot of women who I was stalking from afar and have grown to build a relationship with where they have mentored me and guided me in various aspects of my life such as relationships, business, team building and community management.
I am the first born and being associated with big sisters who look out for me has been the best thing that has happened to me and helped me avoid mistakes that most youths made, all thanks to Fempower because it was at that conference that I GOT MY CLARITY.
Fempower gave me customers. It connected me to book readers who are presently Tribers.
WHAT DOES FEMALE EMPOWERMENT (FEMPOWER) MEAN TO YOU?
Female empowerment to me is a means of empowering women to achieve their potentials via girl child education, employment, funding, skill acquisition and providing a healthy environment for them to thrive in which has equal opportunities for them as that of their counterparts.
WHAT ADVICE/TIPS DO YOU HAVE FOR YOUNG BUSINESS/CAREER WOMEN, TO HELP THEM BUILD AND MAINTAIN VALUABLE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER WOMEN?
Don’t overthink it. Through experience I have come to realize that you never know if that idea will thrive or not unless you do it. It’s better to start and fail than not to start at all. I have done a lot of businesses. Succeeded at some and failed at some but I don’t regret doing any.
Separate your business finances from your personal finances even if you start a business if you don’t want to hustle for years with no result like I did in the previous years.
It’s a gradual process. Don’t expect to start a business and start earning big immediately. What will make you stand out is your consistency and persistence. Every good thing will happen but not all at once. Good things take time.
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
Building a global business, being a public health doctor working with global health organizations, achieving financial freedom, educating children from poor families who can’t afford schooling and being able to afford a life where I can travel as I wish to any destination of choice.
